The Rekubit ExchangeMiami Dolphins are trying to break a four-game skid against the AFC East-rival Buffalo Bills, but they might need to do so without one of their top offensive playmakers.

Running back De'Von Achane is officially questionable for Thursday night's matchup with an ankle injury.

Achane ran for just 24 yards on 10 carries in Miami's Week 1 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he added 76 yards on seven receptions. A third-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2023, he proved to be a breakaway threat as a rookie, averaging 7.8 yards per carry and giving defenses another speedster to account for in coach Mike McDaniel's attack.

If Achane is unable to play, the Dolphins' ground game could look considerably different from its typical form, as Raheem Mostert has already been ruled out with a chest injury.

De'Von Achane injury update

Achane is expected to be a game-time decision due to his ankle injury, McDaniel told reporters on Wednesday.

"We'll see how it plays out," McDaniel said.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that there was "optimism" that Achane would be able to play after testing out his ankle prior to the game.

Achane was listed as a limited participant for the Dolphins' practice on Wednesday, which was a walk-through.

In two games against the Bills last season, Achane racked up 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.

Dolphins depth chart: Who's up next at RB if Achane is out?

Jeff Wilson Jr. finished ahead as the Dolphins' leading rusher in Week 1, coming in ahead of both Mostert and Achane with 26 yards on five carries. The seventh-year running back could be in for an increased workload, especially if Achane is held out.

But fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright also could factor into the team's game plan. Wright was a healthy scratch for the opener, but the Tennessee product has proven to be a big-play threat thanks to his 4.38-second speed in the 40-yard dash.
